A vibrant community venue in Kent, The Old Cigar & Olive hosts weekly jam nights that bring together local musicians across genres — from blues and folk to rock and reggae. The night had a loyal core audience, but the team wanted to reach more people, reflect the energy of the evening online, and give musicians something to be proud of.
The brief
Capture the heart and atmosphere of the Thursday night jam sessions through engaging photography and video content. The aim? Support weekly promotion on social media and create a standout video to attract new visitors and musicians.
I worked with the team over several weeks, attending jam nights to photograph performers, the crowd, and the unique charm of the venue. Once I had a solid bank of content, I produced a short promo video designed for social media which captured the energy of the event in under a minute.
Deliverables included:
📸 Weekly photo galleries for Facebook and Instagram
🎥 A promotional video with live audio and cutaways of the atmosphere
📂 A full content library of visual assets for the venue to use year-round
The results:
✨ Regular social content led to increased engagement and shares from performers and attendees
📈 The video helped draw in new faces and gave the night a professional edge without losing its community feel
🎤 Musicians were proud to repost and tag the venue, increasing organic reach
This project shows my ability to blend documentary-style photography with community storytelling — creating authentic, reusable content that helps venues grow their presence and connect with their audiences.
